Why Kitty Hawk

The Outer Banks’ quiet middle

Kitty Hawk sits between the shops of Duck to the north and the dunes of Nags Head to the south. Along the oceanfront Beach Road, it’s mostly classic beach cottages, public accesses at almost every street end, and wide, uncrowded sand.

From Milepost 3¾ you’re about 10 minutes from the Wright Brothers National Memorial, 20 minutes from Jockey’s Ridge and Duck, and a few minutes from grocery stores and some of the island’s best breakfast and seafood spots.

The town also allows leashed dogs on the beach year-round, which makes it one of the most dog-friendly places to stay on the Outer Banks.
